Ingredients:
2 bananas (still firm but ripe)
4 pop sticks
100g healthy flavored yogurt (e.g. strawberry)
50g healthy flavored yogurt (e.g. vanilla)
Method:
1. Cut each of the bananas in half
2. Put each half banana onto the pop sticks
3. Dip each of the banana halves into the strawberry yogurt (3/4 of the way down)
4. Place on a non-stick tray until yogurt is set.
5. Dip each of the banana halves into the vanilla yogurt (1/4 of the way down)
6. Place back into the freezer until set and the banana is frozen.
Note: Any healthy yogurt can be used. It is better to have the base color as the darker one and the top coat as the lighter one. Kids love the snack because it is not overpowering with tastes and is fun as it's on a stick. Frozen really helps on warm summer days. Can be made without freezing the banana. Enjoy!!!

Do you need a snack for your kids school party or a Holiday party? Here are a few ideas for some healthy snacks to counteract all those yummy treats around this time of year.
Fruit platter-Cut apples into rings and place in lemon juice and water mixture. Drain and align them on a platter. Add mandarin oranges, sliced kiwi, pineapple chunks, or other fruit.
Vegetable Platter- Cut vegetables into sticks or julienne carrots, celery and peppers. Add a homemade dip or store bought to the center of the platter. You can find a festive cheese dip recipe under our seasonal cooking Christmas food Gifts page.
Flavored popcorn- cheese, taco or plain all work great for a healthy quick snack. You can find some recipes for flavored popcorn on our easy kids meals snack recipes page.
Snack mix- Also on our easy kids meals snack recipes page follow the snack mix recipe or use your own variation. Add a different type of nuts, crackers, or cereal.
Muffins- Try mini muffins like banana bread, zucchini, carrot, etc. Add a touch of cream cheese frosting if you really would like a little sweet to go with it.
Sugared Nuts- These have a touch of sugar but the nuts still are healthier than other choices. The recipe can be found on the seasonal cooking with fruit and nut recipes.
No matter what you decide on for your holiday parties enjoy cooking and creating in the kitchen with your kids.

A great way to measure a healthy snack portion is to use a 6 cup mini muffin pan or small gelatin mold pan.(see examples below) Kids love to have their food separate anyway.
It also works well if you let them choose their snacks for the day and have them place the snacks in each hole for snacktime.

We cut banana slices and spread them on a plate. Next, top with peanut butter or nutella (we use soy nut butter b/c of a peanut allergy). Finally, top with anything that looks like a pupil - chocolate chip, raisin, craisin, etc.
Even my daughter who doesn't like plain bananas thinks this is a delicious snack.

Blend 1 Tbsp crunchy peanut butter with 1 Tbsp honey and add 1 Tbsp of raisins.
Wash and core one Red Delicious or other apple, leaving the bottom on the apple.
Using a teaspoon push the peanut butter mixture into the core of the apple.
Wrap apple with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes for peanut mixture to harden a little. Or leave overnight and include in lunch boxes for the next day.

Tortilla Snowflakes
"Snowflakes"
Microwave a large flour tortilla until pliable (about 20 seconds).
Fold tortilla in half, fold in half again, and again (forming a triangle). Using sterilized child scissors, let the kids start cutting shapes in the edges of the tortilla triangle (just as they would a paper snowflake). Gently unfold, revealing their tortilla snowflake. Spray the surface of an electric skillet or griddle with non-stick cooking spray (we used butter flavored PAM). Lightly brown both sides of "snowflake". Sprinkle with powdered sugar and ENJOY!
Ingredients: Large flour tortilla, PAM, powdered sugar
Utensils: Microwave, child safe scissors, electric skillet, spatula
10 cups oyster crackers
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 TBSP dill weed
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp paprika
Put oyster crackers in large bowl and drizzle with oil, tossing to coat evenly.
Put oyster crackers in large paper bag and add seasonings, then shake vigorously to coat the crackers with seasonings.
Store in an airtight container.
You can eat these as a snack or add them to soups and salads.
