Kids Fun Finger Foods

Kids fun finger foods can provide great entertainment for the whole family. It is a known fact that kids love finger foods and small things they can eat in one bite. Put something on a stick and it is even better. Put these ideas to work and you will create some great easy kids meals that will have your kids excited for mealtime.

Kids Fun Finger Foods-Kabobs

Kabobs are the easiest and most kid friendly because kids can get in on the creating and each family member can make it their own way. Here are some kabob recipes and ideas.
  • Create a fruit kabob with kiwi, watermelon chunks, orange slices or whatever fruit you have available. They can be colorful and really look appealing. Top each with a marshmallow if desired.
  • You can make a lunch type kabob by adding ham or turkey chunks, cheese cubes, olives and a cherry tomato. It is a quick sandwich on a stick.
  • For dinner marinate chicken or steak cubes (see the recipes below) and create your kabob with meat, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes or other vegetables.
If you don't want to use a stick try using a straw or popsicle stick to make kabobs. You can pre-cook everything then place on a straw or popsicle stick before serving or let kids assemble their own.

Meat Kabob Marinade

1/3 Cup Worcestershire sauce
1/3 Cup soy sauce
1/3 Cup water
1/3 Cup ketchup
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
Add ingredients together in jar and shake until combined. This marinade is enough for about 1-2 pound of meat or vegetables. Marinade meat for several hours and grill or bake.

You can also marinade vegetables in this such as mushrooms, broccoli, carrots or cauliflower for 1-2 hours.

Quick and Simple Meat Marinade

Try a balsamic vinaigrette either homemade or store bought. Pour 1/2 Cup in a ziploc baggie and place chicken or beef cubes in bag. Marinade several hours. Grill or bake.

Satay Kids Fun Finger Foods

Another great finger food is a Satay. Satay is simply chicken, beef or pork on a stick. Marinate strips of meat in a teriyaki marinade or marinade of your choice. Then thread the chicken on a bamboo stick. Soak the sticks before using about 30 minutes to prevent burning the stick when grilling. You can cook these in the oven turning over once or twice if you don't want to grill them. Satays are popular in Southeast Asia and are often served with a peanut sauce for dipping.

Mini Foods

Kids love mini versions of food. Try mini hamburgers and make it a whole mini meal and buy or bake small buns to go with it. Serve mini pickles and kids will enjoy having a pint size meal. Mini tacos, mini meatballs or mini wraps work great also.

Homemade "Fast Food" Kids Meals

  1. We all know the ultimate kids favorite food is chicken nuggets. However make yours a little healthier by making a homemade version. Cut chicken in cubes and soak in buttermilk for 30 minutes. Coat each nugget with seasoned bread crumbs and place on a cookie sheet. You can line your cookie sheet with tin foil for an easier clean up. Cook nuggets at 375 degrees until crispy and flip over after 15-20 minutes.

  2. You can do the same idea above substituting fish to make fish fingers.

  3. Another kids fun finger foods that you can make a healthier version is corn dogs or try a mini corn dog rollup.

  4. Chicken wings or chicken legs are always kid favorites. They can be prepared easily by baking in the oven (a much healthier alternative to frying). Pour barbecue, teriyaki or a homemade sauce over chicken and bake at 375 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until no longer pink.

Fondue

Fondue is an ultimate finger food and dip party. What kid doesn’t like that! A pizza fondue or cheese fondue is great for dinner and you can end the dinner with a dessert fondue if you choose.

Pizza Fondue

1/2 lb lean ground beef
16 ounces pizza sauce
10 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
2 loaves French bread cut in cubes
In saucepan brown beef. Add all ingredients together and add to a crock pot or fondue pot. Allow cheese to melt and fondue to warm. Dip bread cubes in fondue.

Kids Fun Finger Food Platters

Set out a platter of vegetables cut in sticks and a dip on the side and you will be surprised that even some of your pickiest eaters might grab a carrot or two. This is a great idea to set out while you are fixing dinner and kids are anxiously waiting for suppertime.

A fruit platter cut up and looking pretty will get eaten faster than giving kids a whole apple or banana. Perhaps it is the convenience of already cut fruit and vegetables.

Try some picnic finger foods.

Add a Dip

Now that you have some great kids fun finger foods don't forget another fun part- the dip. Dip Recipes can add fun kids appeal to any meal.

Breakfast Kids Fun Finger Foods

Breakfast can become a finger food meal also.
  • Start with boiled eggs and either cut them in half or leave whole. Place egg on a stick with a cooked pancake cut in cubes and a sausage or bacon to top it off. Sounds odd but kids will love to eat these breakfast kabobs.
  • Try mini breakfast versions of muffins, mini pancakes or mini quiches for breakfast, also.

  • Prepare French Toast and cut in sticks. You have now created a quick and easy finger food kids will love to dip in a side of syrup.
