Red Cabbage Coleslaw


How to make a basic red cabbage coleslaw. You can trade red cabbage for white cabbage.



Recipe for Cabbage Slaw

Red cabbage, cut in thin strips
Olive oil
lemon juice
salt and pepper
carrots, shredded or cut thin
bell peppers, cut in thin strips, optional

In serving bowl, add cabbage and vegetables.  Drizzle olive oil and lemon juice over top and toss to coat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.

Different Coleslaw Variations

dot You can also stir in broken, cooked spaghetti.
dot Drizzle with soy sauce.
dot Use a mayonnaise based dressing instead of the olive oil and lemon juice.
dot Add chopped green onions.
dot Stir in pineapple crushed or chunks.
dot Use any type of cabbage instead of red cabbage.


Ramen Coleslaw Salad

A variation on red cabbage coleslaw. Use either green or red cabbage for this recipe.

2 bags coleslaw or 1 large head green cabbage, shredded
6 green onions, chopped, including tops
3/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted
1/2 cup sesame seeds, toasted
2 packages Chinese Ramen noodles, uncooked, crumbled slightly
1 cup light olive oil or other salad oil
1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
1 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper

In a serving bowl, add shredded cabbage, onions, almonds, seeds and Ramen noodles. In a jar or mixing container blend together olive oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Pour dressing over cabbage coleslaw and toss to coat. Serve immediately.
