You can also choose your family's favorite vegetables. If you'd like to use fresh vegetables chop and boil for 5-7 minutes before stirring in. This will help your vegetables to come out not so crunchy! Our family's favorite vegetable in this easy shepherds pie is fresh or frozen green beans but you can try mixed vegetables, corn or carrots and pea mix.

1 lb. ground beef or beef cubes
1 onion, grated or chopped
1 carrot, grated or diced
1 garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
salt and pepper
1/4 Cup beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon tomato paste
1 Tablespoon dry onion soup mix
small bag of frozen vegetables- such as green beans or peas and carrot mix
mashed potatoes
cheddar cheese

In a skillet brown your beef with onion, carrot and garlic. Season with Italian seasoning and salt and pepper. Add in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and onion soup mix and stir until blended.

Shepherds Pie Recipe

Makes 2 9-in dishes

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
6 medium potatoes
2 cups beef gravy
1 can mushrooms (optional)
sm. onion, chopped
10 ounces frozen veggies
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Cube potatoes and cook till soft. Mash the potatoes, add butter and milk to make smooth and any seasonings if desired.
Brown the beef, add onions. When beef is cooked, add in gravy, vegetables, and mushrooms.

Lightly grease two 9-in pie dishes. Divide the beef mixture in half and put in each dish. Repeat with the potatoes. Sprinkle 1 cup of cheese on each dish.

Freeze or bake at 400 for 30 minutes.

This dish is very versatile. Use whatever dishes or cheese you have on hand. You can use the equivalent of instant mashed potatoes if you don't want to make your own. You can omit the onion or mushrooms, or you can add in your own favorite veggies.

Great recipe. I love the bright colorful vegetables. The only change I made was I didn't have beef gravy so I mixed a package of onion soup mix with 1- 1/2 Cups water. Delicious.
